What is Urodynamic Testing?

How does the test work?
The tests are completed with an instrument called a Cystometry System. The physician or nurse will work directly with you to complete one or more of the following tests:
With the use of a special catheter, your bladder will be filled with saline solution and the equipment will take measurements at certain times during the procedure to diagnose any problems.

Will the tests be performed at my 1st appointment?
Your first appointment will be with the physician for a discussion and physical exam with a review of your medical history, signs and symptoms. At this appointment, you and your physician will determine if you are a good candidate for the urodynamic testing. If you are a candidate, the test will be scheduled for another day.
How do I prepare for the test?
Usually no special preparations are needed. Upon your arrival to our office you will be asked to give a urine sample.
How long does the procedure take?
The complete set of diagnostic tests takes 30-60 minutes. This includes the preparation for the test, the completion of the procedure, and a discussion with the physician.
Will Insurance pay for the tests?
Most insurance plans will pay for the tests. The patient financial counselor at Rutherford OB-GYN will assist you in determining if the tests are covered and what your financial responsibility will be.
