Obstetrics - Having a Baby
If you are pregnant or planning on having a baby, Rutherford OB-GYN Associates will provide the best care available.  All the physicians are Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  As obstetricians, they are specially trained in the care of pregnant women.  This care includes:
  • Preconceptional period (before pregnancy)
  • Pregnancy
  • Labor and childbirth
  • Postpartum period (after baby is born)

You will begin your obstetrical care with Rutherford OB-GYN Associates with a visit to our OB nursing staff.  To make sure we have all the information needed to provide the best care, the nurse will take your comprehensive history.  She will talk with you about your pregnancy, telling you what to expect and answering any questions you may have.  A prenatal blood panel will be drawn during the visit.  You will also receive a special gift bag that includes many special items and a gift from the physicians of Rutherford OB-GYN Associates.

Your second visit will be with the physician of your choice.  At that visit, you will have a complete physical exam, the physician will review your prenatal lab test results, and the physician will address any issues or concerns that you have.

Your routine visits will be regularly scheduled appointments and can be with the physician of your choice and on the day of your choice.  The routine visits are important so your health and the health of your baby can be monitored.  You may want to consider seeing each physician at some point during your pregnancy because any one of them could deliver your baby, depending on when you go into labor.  There is one physician on call all the time who is dedicated to taking care of our patients in labor.

If you have a normal pregnancy without any problems, you will have an appointment 1 time per month for the first 28 weeks of your pregnancy.  From week 28 to week 36, you will visit with a physician every 2 weeks, and after 36 weeks, we will see you 1 time every week.

We have a nurse available during normal office hours to answer questions about problems that you are having.  You can call the office at 287-7383 to speak with a nurse.  If the nurse is not available, please leave a message and she will return your call.  If you need to be examined because of an unforeseen problem, there is a physician in the office during normal hours to care for patients with non-routine issues.  If you have problems after normal office hours, call The Birth Place at 286-7260.  The nursing staff at The Birth Place will get you in touch with one of the physicians.
